Holy heck Calvin, you took the Dave Fritz Guided Tour on this one!! I love it, glad I could help out a bit... very shocked to see the Eclipse jammed into the wooden platform thingie at Lonaconing. I forgot to update that the Sterling in the belltower was moved to a pole after the firehouse was sold, there was no where you would have been able to see the Sterling in the belltower.. I was taking an educated guess that it was Sterling based on it's sound. The Sterling that was 4 blocks away 3 years ago burned up and was replaced with that Model 5, was there still an STH-10 sitting on the ground behind the station with the broken GCS Model 5? Good pictures my friend, did you happen to get to see the ACA Alertronic 6000R that was mounted on the Piedmont side of the Luke Paper Mill grounds? I was very thrilled to see it, that is my dream siren... all of the people on here dream of owning a Thunderbolt some day, not me.. I am all about the Alertronic 6000R. Heck I own a Thunderbolt 1000, if someone happened to stop by with an Alertronic 6000R they would be leaving with the 1000 LOL.

There's pictures of the Mount Jackson sirens on The Siren Archive.

I've seen those before. That's how I obtained the rough guesstimate dates for the repainting.

I love this name. We could make a set of audio tapes out of it. "The Dave Fritz Guided Tour of Western Maryland Sirens", perhaps?

I don't recall seeing one, though I could have missed it.

Unfortunately not, as I was completely unaware that the mill was so close by. I had assumed that it would be much closer to Cumberland.

I always find it wasteful when a town or a city uses 2 telephone poles to mount a siren such as a 2t22 that is CLEARLY designed for use on a single telephone pole.
Waste of money if you ask me.

Maybe the siren is too heavy for one pole or they're trying to keep vandals away from them?

Best siren hunt I've seen in a while! Now I'm itching to go on another one.

The thing is, the designer probably will never have to repair or maintain that siren. If you are the one that has to work on it, 2 poles with a platform in between may seem like the best thing since sliced bread. To me, working on a platform is far preferable to leaning against a belt on a pole when you find a bucket truck or other lift unavailable.

If you decide you want to come north, Surry's doing their quarterly test next Wednesday, the 11th.

This seems quite reasonable to me. It might also explain why the platform is relatively low-mounted.
