Philomont VFD's Allertor is probably going to get repaired

Wed Sep 10, 2014 9:22 am

Dave Fritz (Rheems1) and I have both agreed that the ACA Allertor at the volunteer fire department in Philomont, Virginia sounds terrible - even worse than the one at that was once at the nearby Middleburg VFD, which also sounded sick and lost its horn in an ice storm in 2006 or 2007. I think one problem both sirens have had is fried capacitors. Besides rainwater getting into the motor and chopper of the Middleburg one. Both sirens were once part of the DC metro area's Civil Defense system, and once they became fire sirens, and CD stopped maintaining them, we think they just didn't get properly maintained.

My dad is talking to Loudoun County about replacing the Philomont siren's capacitors, hopefully it will sound healthy again after that. I remember it was very healthy-sounding 12 or 13 years ago. For those of you who haven't seen my video yet, tell me what you think.
