I doubt they'll do anything regardless of how many times they're contacted. They probably have other issues like Highways, or other things sirens seem like small potatoes compared to.

To not derail this, nice recording.

I got new information. I went to the office today and I have reported the problem to the fire marshal (that he's the director of the Spartanburg County siren system). There gonna take a look at it soon or the next couple months. I will report more siren problems.

Ha ha ha ha! That's hilarious.
Maybe it came off the gears.

The planetary gear set inside the disc is beginning to seize because of the lack of lubrication. If they lubricated the gears, it should iron out.

Gee, thanks! That does make sense.

Note that when the siren starts up, the disc starts rotating in one direction, then it spins in the other direction. Hmm.

Thanks.

Are you sure? It could be a shading illusion, since the disc is all black and a shadows and trick the eye.

Would it make sense for the disc to start rotating, stop, then start again at a much greater speed in the same direction? The disc was made to go one way- opposite the rotor. When the planetary gears start getting stiff, they don't effectively do their job. That's why it works at the low RPMs, but stops then goes the other way- the planetary sets can't keep up. In the video, it starts going the proper way, then the gears get stiff and it goes the other way- the same direction as rotor rotation.

I guess that makes sense. I thought it was one of those instances with shading, where it appears to move one way and it is really moving the opposite. I'll have to see that video again in that case.
Edit: Yep, I guess what I said in the above post actually happened to me instead. What irony.

It's not reversing direction. It's impossible for the gears to reverse direction unless unless the planet gears are "locked" in place or the gear carrier itself is seizing up. You stop the "planet" gears from orbiting around the sun gear and the direction instantly reverses.

For those of you who don't know, this site has lots of good animations about how planetary gears work: http://www.mekanizmalar.com/transmission.html.
