Jackson County, AL Siren Hunt 10-11-14

Sun Oct 12, 2014 2:03 am

Went over to Jackson County, AL today to look at a few things they have there. These are the photos I got of the sirens I saw there.

The first siren I saw was the Whelen Vortex and Mystery Siren at the Woodville Fire Department.

The next siren I saw was the Model 3 at the Scottsboro Fire Department in downtown Scottsboro.

On my way to a railroad crossing in Scottsboro, I passed by their airport. As I was passing it, I saw this Whelen siren. I think it's a Whelen 2909, but it could be a 2809.

Next, I went over to Stevenson, AL and photographed their Model 5 at their fire department.

On my way into Bridgeport, AL, I spotted one of their Modulator 6024s along AL 277.

The last siren I stopped at was the Modulator 5020 at the Bridgeport Fire Department.

You're right about the Whelen omni being a 2909.

Your "mystery" siren is the main components of a Sterling 2V8 turned on its side and held onto that homemade bracket by a large U-bolt. I don't know why they have it set up in such a way, unless maybe it took a fall once and was mangled pretty bad or something of the sort. Either way it looks pretty neat the way they have it mounted now.

Model 3 housings vary depending on the year they were made. An example below is mine which is a Federal Electric Model 3 with a 5hp 3 phase motor. Others have the top and bottom louvers closer together and have a 3hp motor.
