What's the outward difference between a Model 5 and 7?

Mon Nov 17, 2014 11:17 pm

So, something I've been wondering for awhile, what is the physical difference (if there is one) between a Federal Model 5 and 7? Say you're driving and spot one or the other, how can you outwardly identify them from apparent physical disparities? Am I missing something? They look like clones.

(Also, sorry if this topic has already been addressed, I looked briefly through old threads but didn't care to sort through all 20 pages of keyword matches)
My girlfriend does not understand this at all. Actually I really don't either.

There isn't one. Apparently the Model 7 had a more powerful motor than the 5, but was otherwise exactly the same.

Yea they did have a thread on this. The model 5 and model 7 are the same siren.
Own and love a Thunderbolt 1000 and a Model 5.

I have many hobbies and interests. And I love them all.

I have heard mixed things on this and info I have always heard the same was, they both had 10HP motors. But IIRC they had different brands and I always heard the Model 7 was slightly taller than the Model 5 and I have also heard they are the same size.

It seems to me that in some cases, the Model 7 is a little taller.

Looking at the Federal's webpage, it seems that the inner cone is shaped differently.

I very well doubt that. So far the only difference between the two is horse power. The Model 7 is more powerful than the Model 5.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Look again at http://www.federalsignal-indust.com/pro ... iren-model and http://www.federalsignal-indust.com/pro ... en-model-l. The A (first) has a conical inner thing. The L (second) has a cylindrical one. Maybe there's a physically larger motor?

You must be a newbie. Those sirens are not what this topic is about, it's about these.

There are two different models the Model 5, and the Model 7. They look exactly the same but the difference is that the Model 7 is more powerful than the 5.
