HPSS-16 is the omnidirectional siren

HPSS-16R is the unidirectional siren

I think this is has already been generally understood. :|

Since Longmont replaced these with the Omni ATI's because of considerable amount of problems, it makes me wonder how long their new system will last...I give it 5-10 years, tops.

Well, in that video, there was clearly still quite a bit of slack in the wires when the siren stopped and reversed each time--maybe ATI is actually learning, and installed limit switches in newer HPSS16Rs? Oh lord, I knew I couldn't say that with a straight face...

I, for one, am glad this was bumped. I forgot to post my source for the number of 400 watt drivers per horn as I said I'd do when I returned from Vegas.

That's a PDF from the era in which Gamewell rebranded ATI sirens.

This looks more like an ATI rather than it does a Whelen. Like a larger version of an HPSS-16R

Sort of glad it got bumped too, I never posted the rest of the story (to steal a line from Paul Harvey)... the picture I posted a number of years ago with one of these next to a brown Thunderbolt was part of the Susquehanna Steam Power Plant system in Berwick, Pa. After the system was put in, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission came in to do their approval of the system. It failed miserably, the company that owns the power plant (PP&L) went back and sued ATI for Non-performance and have since replaced the system (or ATI replaced the system) with a system of ASC T-121 sirens. From all accounts from the people that I have spoken to up there, the whole system was underwhelming and had many failures.. after the NRC didn't pass it that was the death knell.

It looks like an ATI HPSS32-R. They are rare, but are mostly found out west. I saw one in Oklahoma once.
