I'm working on trying to acquire a few sirens right now. That one is on the list too.

Only the gas powered ones were 8 port. I would imagine that because the gas engines were 25 hp and the electric sirens were only 10 hp. The 8 port rotor was probably too much of a load on the 10 hp version.
The 8 port rotor was the same one that Federal used on the Model 5/7. I wouldn't think it would overload the motor like the later one that ACA made would. The one on the MD was smaller.

The 8 port is the same size as the 10/12.

Reason for the 25 horsepower gas engine is because an electric motor has more torque than a gas engine of the same horsepower. When sizing a gas engine you look at the brake horsepower, which is a much lower number than the peak horsepower.

The electric motor generates it's max torque at 0 RPM. The gas engine doesn't hit it's torque peak till later on in the power band.

The Mobil Directo that remains in Mequon (by North Shore Country Club) was disconnected in 1985.

It started up out of nowhere, and it kept sounding until the city got there (2 hours later) and cut the wires.

Here is a slideshow I made before I knew the “story” behind it.
