Sirens In LA

Tue Nov 24, 2015 11:47 am

Yep, as the title says, I have seen sirens in Los Angeles.

Before anyone asks:

I have no idea what make/model it is.
No I don't know the testing schedule (nor do I really care).
I have not heard it go off in the three months I've been living in LA.
Yes that's an LA Metro bus in the picture.

It looks like a Federal SD-10, probably installed during the 1950s. There are several in the Los Angeles area.

Here's an old site that documented many LA sirens:

That siren is an old Federal Signal SD-10, and those siren's have LONG since been deactivated; and it makes sense that you have not heard them as (I think) they were deactivated sometime in the mid to late 80's. Other siren's in LA include older short-horned 500T's, Model 5/7(T)'s, and some weird mystery siren's that look like a smaller Model 3.

The mystery sirens are Fedelcode 5s with short A-frame housings.

Ah, that makes sense. Thank you for the clarification!

https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mi ... 8&hl=en_US Found this about a month ago, maybe you can see street view and see which ones were removed and not, but some place along the line of doing research, I think the siren system was cut long ago. Also, they have a Chrysler Bell Victory or 2 still up and caged :)
I own: One complete SiraTone, another SiraTone control module, a 1600W MC, 2 old ATI controllers, 2 round ATI horns with drivers, a ATI-DSA 4 thing, a Federal Signal FC, AR timer and Siratrol, and a small CD&F.

All 500Ts are have a short projector. The 500s with the longer projectors are: 500-SHTT, 500A/500B, 500AT/500BT.
:P50: is my favorite :D

There's even some 2T22 Or 3T22 sirens in California also. If you look carefully you notice that there's no power lines going to any of the sirens. When I first saw couple of California Civil Defense sirens pictures I thought they did still have power lines going to them. But it turned out they didn't.
