The post failed to give a precise location. I wanted to keep unverified sightings out as they lack any details.500AT wrote:According to a friend of mine that used to install sirens for Whelen. At first, he thought it was a T-Bolt, but upon closer inspection with a pair of binoculars, he concluded that it was indeed a Hurricane.
The odds of a Hurricane 130 in Michigan are so low. American signal and ACA systems in Michigan are not common; they are more common in central and downstate Michigan, but one in northern Michigan I highly doubt that.Remingtoncountry wrote:Supposedly there was one in Michigan in either Cheboygan or Charlevoix. Dont remember which. Mi fire departmentnts have a habit of keeping old things around. Be willing to bet money its sitting in some barn somewhere under a tarp for 20 years.
Correct on the one in Charlevoix being a Federal siren. They have a 3T22 mounted atop the city hall/fire department building in downtown.AST128_RyanK wrote:I know Charlevoix does have a siren because there was a news article about their daily siren whistles. Wow! Never expected them to have such a large siren. I expected somthing smaller such as a Model 2 or 5.murrfarms wrote:Correct on the one in Charlevoix being a Federal siren. Very fascinating! I suppose that solves the mystery of the standpipe-like mounting of the Allertronic at the FD! (https://flic.kr/p/vH72ah) Though it seems interesting that they would replace them with more ACA sirens after they filed a lawsuit against them.SuperBanshee wrote:Rolling Meadows, IL: They had at least three Hurricanes installed in 1971, one of which was ordered with three signals. The city was going to get a grant to pay off half the siren cost if the sirens gave 130 decibels. These sirens only gave 124 decibels on testing which lead to the city filing a suit against ACA by 1974. The Hurricanes were replaced at some point with newer sirens.
