Exactly why he was talking about the 508 and not the 2001.

I noticed something else strange that moves with my theory... It looks to me like all of the FS sirens that rotate have a number, a zero then another number. (508, 500, 1000, 1003, 2001, 1000T, and I think that's it for numbered mechanical sirens... I know the equinox also exists but...) so I suspect it's "family" number, rotational and... Maybe ident numbers? Weird theory but it's something right?

Interesting theory, I didn't think of that.

Funny thing is this is true. There was a contest in the 90s at Federal to come up with names and vote on the favorite names. 2001 was supposed to be a futuristic name for the new siren for the future. That is how it came about.

Which means that it's supposed to resemble the year 2001, which was a year of the future in the late 80s?

This is off topic, but why was the Defender unsuccessful? I've always wondered why there are so little of them.

It completely contradicts their marketing. They boast all-around sound, all the time. They also say how less moving parts are better. The Defender qualified for neither of those categories, and I think was just too burdensome and costly to produce.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was looking at their website, and I was wondering why they would make a siren like that if they thought omnidirectional non-rotating sirens are the best. I actually somehow thought Soundmaster made them. I don't know where I got that idea.

I don't know the motor HP, but if it's 20 HP, it would be broken down like this.

The 20 in 2001 means 20 HP motor, and 01 means single tone.

Correct me on that, I'm not sure. This is just a theory.
In my opinion, I think there way too many 2001's in Indiana!

According to the manual for the 2001 and 508 sirens, the 2001 uses a 6.5 HP series-wound DC motor.
