As for the 408, wow I never thought they existed. Even though I saw the flyer posted on the old board of the 408 and 816, I thought they just never made it to the market. Now find me a picture of a 816, and we'll be talking rare.

There was a discussion on the old board about that long horn on top of the building. I don't think anyone figured out what it is.

It seems to me that from a horn design standpoint, that horn is long enough to be an effective quarter-wave resonator down to at least 45 hz, if not lower. It's way too long to be a siren horn, so I think it's actually intended to produce low frequencies. I think the mouth is not large enough for the horn to be an effective acoustic impedance transformer below about 200 Hz, though. But it's not unheard of to use quarter wave resonance to extend the apparent low end of a bass horn.

I honestly do not know. What I do know is that somewhere deep on youtube there is a news video about siren replacements, and somewhere during the video, it shows a EOWS 408 rotating, and sounding(if they didn't use a stock siratone sound.), but its only a breif clip of a few seconds.

Unfortunatly no many of them exist anymore, so finding pictures of them is hard to come by. Logan Shelts on here(can't remember his user name) has a 408 that he built out of a 612 by basically chopping off the top two speakers and refitting everything. He had videos of it, not too sure if they are still on YouTube.

The one from above was one of the many sirens that cover the Pilgrim nuclear generating facility's EPZ. They had many EOWS sirens installed in the late 1980's with some normally rotating sirens configured as stationary directional arrays. I'm not too sure what models they had, but the known ones were the 408 and 612. The SiraTone cabinets were rubbish, so they replaced the controls with an UltraVoice. They ended up replacing all of them in the mid 2000's with Modulators. This one in particular was installed on 903 Summer St. in Duxbury, MA and was replaced with a Modulator 5020 on the same pole; they more than likely added 3 amps to the existing controller, since there really wouldn't have been a need to replace the cabinet itself. They replaced it before Google and Bing were really doing the whole StreetView, but with the old version of Bing Maps you can see it on the Bird's Eye view.
