It is a rotating Model 5. It has the same chopper setup.nathancovey wrote:The 500 in Marshfield sounds like a rotating Model 5. I have heard it on YouTube videos before.
This 500 ST-108 siren sounds like a Federal Signal 2001 siren. Just saying.Chicagosiren-hunters wrote:So I was browsing YouTube when I found this:

Looks like Marshfield's 500 is still there and running proud.
Do you know the address to that Whelen-404-R siren? I want too see if it's on Google Earth or not.SuperBanshee wrote:When I spoke to Marshfield's fire and police departments, they stated the siren was to be removed in 2013 because they couldn't find a way to upgrade its controls to comply with then-new FCC narrowbanding requirements. Later videos of Marshfield's other sirens (2001s) never mentioned the 500, which suggested it was removed. I am surprised the siren is still there, but it is a treat to see it go off again. Perhaps it will stay for just a while longer now.
The city always labeled the siren as a "500-ST 108" - I don't know how they got this name however the siren is a 500A as noted earlier in this thread. I still have an old parts list sheet and the models mentioned are 500A, 500B, 500AT, and 500BT. It was my impression that there was some flaw with the siren that gave the lower-than-usual decibel rating - it was not that loud in person. The only culprit I could immediately find was a ton of rust on the projector, which would have let some small holes develop which would hamper the sound output. A projector with holes is not as efficient as one without.
Marshfield did have other erroneous siren names such as a "Whelen 404-R" which referred to what was presumed to be a Whelen 4004 - notice that particular siren was replaced with a 2001-130. I remember finding it on Bing Maps, only to discover the new 2001-130 when I set out to find it in person.
