Perkins, Oklahoma sirens to be replaced

Fri Mar 20, 2015 8:17 pm

Hi Everyone

I have been trying to find Perkins Thunderbolt and today I think I found it thanks to the city manager. He sent me a email with the siren locations and with Google Earth I found the following sirens.

A Modulator behind Jalopy’s restaurant

A Thunderbeam at Kirk and Methodist
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.979949, ... T5nOGw!2e0

A 2t22 on E Chantry Ave.

A Sterling M10 on the Water Tower

A 2t22 on East Knipe

The Thunderbolt should be on West Chantry Ave. Its the only area were I can't find a siren and the Thunderbolt was still at its old location the last time Google was in Perkins. Now here is some more news on there sirens. They are going to be "upgrading" the system. The email I received is below.

"We actually have 5 tornado sirens in town. The siren you saw on the Highway is the newest addition and is located behind Jalopy’s restaurant. The other sirens are the older style and we are getting ready to go out for bid for new sirens that will have better coverage. There is a siren located behind the Methodist Church at Kirk and Methodist, one on East Chantry, one behind city hall on the water tower (very old), one on west Chantry, and one on East Knipe."

"I have been researching the cost to upgrade the entire system and it looks like we will actually be going out to bid next week, if everything works right. With the newer sirens, we will be able to reduce the number or sirens we have and actually fairly dramatically increase the warning area (for outdoor) to approximately 1 mile outside of town."

They said they have 5 sirens well this makes 6 and if the Thunderbolt is found that would be 7. Sounds like the city is guessing on how many sirens they have.

The 2T22 and Thunderbeam sirens would best be replaced by Eclipse 8's/T-121s. The Thunderbolt would best be replaced by a 508 Siren or a T-128. Then they can reuse the existing electrical connections.

UPDATE: I was going to Stillwater yesterday and went though Perkins and saw a 2t22 near the CENEX gas station. I was able to take a photo of it but it turned out bad because I was in a hurry to take the photo because I was not expecting to see a siren there. What I assume happen is Perkins received new sirens and relocated the old ones. Next time I am in Perkins I am going to go around town to the old locations and see whats there. But the way it looks Perkins did not get rid of the old Sirens like they were planing to do.

Those 2t22's look to actually be 3t22's.
