Electroinic Siren Amplifiers.

Thu Aug 18, 2016 5:57 pm

So I'm doing another siren project, but this is an electronic siren. I've synthesized all of the tones that I need and I've drawn up various designs for it.

Tomorrow (Friday) I'm expecting to receive two 15W passive speaker horns. Now, that may seem terrible for a siren but my school have them of their fire alarm and they are LOUD, and I mean: 106Db LOUD. These are driven by a 15W amplifier inside the boxes they are fastened to, but the problem I have is: "where can I find a 15W amplifier? I can't get them from school, since they are still in use and still going strong, so where else could I find them?"

So I rooted around my house and I have two devices I could use: an old Hi-Fi stereo radio with speaker terminals (not jacks) at the back, or an old surround sound amp which I am currently using. My question is which one should I use?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Neither, those aren't the type of amplifiers you'll want.

And I'm buying an amplifier for them. 15W dual channel. Do I need anything else or do I need to do something else before I use it?

This is what you would want to use.

Surprisingly enough, I'm getting its European equivalent (of sorts)

What will you use as a tone generator? I have some tones I made in Audacity that you could use.

You've probably seen that I did synthesize the tones so I'll probably link the audio file(s) here, If you would like to use them yourself.
Here's the finished siren: https://www.thesirenboard.com/forums/vi ... =3&t=20267

I'm using a laptop as the tone player, and as an announcement machine since I'm using EchoStation and some synthesized voice announcements.

Are the tones you made dual tone?
Are you going to post a video of the completed siren? It looks much better than my electronic siren attempt.

I made the tones dual and single tone:
435Hz alert tone;
850Hz alert and attack (both were equally as terrible);
Dual tone 1020Hz/850Hz Alert and attack.

And yes, I'll soon post a video on it!
