Mystery siren....Rockaway valley, Boonton NJ

Sat Jan 20, 2018 12:06 am

Hey everyone..New member here from scenic Boonton NJ, or in siren terms, Model 5 country....(seriously they're everywhere here and are tested more than anything else :) ) This old thing pictured below is rusting away on a pole next to a large farm in my neighborhood. I've thought for some time that it's a Darley Model 2, but every time I pass by I have second thoughts, since most darleys ive seen have that "pointier" housing towards the top. Thoughts?

That would be a GCS siren... Basically a Model 2, 5 or 7 with a custom housing (just like the old Darley sirens).

Thanks guys! wish I could hear this thing! probably hasnt sounded in decades. Boonton township has this, and an STH10 & 2T22 both in heavily rusted CD yellow.... who knows when the last time they sounded was!

That would be a General City Services (GCS) Model 5.

This is actually a GCS Model 3. GCS Model 5s have a wider lowver louver, GCS Model 2s look similar to Fedelcode Model 2s but with a rounded top cap and they are very rare.
There are many of these GCS Model 3s in Oregon.
