(WIP) Central IA Siren Map

Mon Jun 10, 2019 3:07 am

Hey everybody!
I have been working on this on and off, and it still isn't quite complete (obviously), but I still believe it deserves a share.
I've been out in central Iowa on and off for about two years while at college, and have seen my fair share of sirens, but there are very few maps from this area that are either up to date or accurate...that's where I step in! I have all of Story and Polk counties completed, but there are still many, many sirens to find and update for other counties.

Locations gathered from Aaron's (given to me by Michael), Donald's, and Max's siren maps, with many locations added/updated. Thanks, guys!

Sirens can be sorted by the following colors:

Red: ACA
Orange: American Signal
Yellow: Whelen
Green: Sentry/Sterling
Teal: Darley
Blue: Federal Signal

Lighter shades: omnidirectional
darker shade: rotational
White star: inactive/abandoned
Red X: removed

Finally someone makes a Central Iowa map!

I just wish Polk County never got rid of their thunderbolts, my family transported one of Johnston's Thunderbolt 1003's to Crosslake, MN in the late 90's where it sits to this day but thats about all the info i have on the old system.

Also just an addition, there is an inactive Model 2-240 on top of the Clive Fire Station in Polk County, hasn't been used since the 70's-80's and unfortunately Urbandale removed their 3016's in early 2019 and put in 2001-SNRB's

If y'all need any additional help with west central and central Iowa (Guthrie, Dallas, Polk, Madison, Warren) let me know!

Not sure if this information helps but Pleasant Hill's old system used to have a few XT22's. One near a Sentry 10V2T SCS, one near the old fire/police department, and one at sunrise park. Along with that, Doanes park used to have what looks like an STL-10.
