STH-10 original color

Sat Jun 08, 2019 2:26 pm

Does anyone know what the Federal STH-10 had for a paint color coming out of the factory? I have seen them in several colors, but I am starting a restoration and would prefer to paint it up original as is reasonably possible (meaning I don't care the shade of gray or yellow or what ever cuz it's getting can bombed, but I don't what it yellow if it was gray originally. The one I have is gray. And I assume that was the original color but I would like to verify that if possible.

Well it's either two things:

If your STH-10 is a CD-era model, then it may have went out of the factory painted CD Yellow, else if it's a late model (FSC-era), I belive they were painted white or grey but don't quote me on that.

I’m not sure about the older ones, but I think the mid to late ones came out white and gray, and the very last ones were just white, but I could be wrong.

The older ones were either CD yellow or red to my understanding.

Out of curiosity, is it possible the gray was primer? I've seen a number of STH-10s in this color, and they have that dull, matte look to them. Such as this one, in Ammon, ID.

The last few years of production they were white. Prior to that I believe they came either in grey or CD yellow and in red & CD yellow prior to that.
