Barton Hills, MI, Old Fire Sirens

Fri Jan 28, 2022 2:15 pm

So most of you on Facebook likely already know this, but I have been digging into the long lost Barton Hills system, which consisted of a Fedelcode Type 2, Federal Model 2, & a Single-End Sterling Little Giant! I found some cross streets for them and went to check things out! Low and behold, they were ALL still there! Fast forward a few days, me and a friend emailed them about the sirens and possibly acquiring them! Turns out, the Fedelcode was bought by the country club and is now their tornado/lightning siren, but the other 2 remain derelict. Another email later, we were granted permission to remove the other two and that is just a day away! I already have the motor starter from the 2! If anybody has info on these sirens, please let me know! Here are some pictures!

Got the 2 yesterday! Had a BIG mouse nest inside and is wrapped shut with vines. I’ll keep y’all posted! Here’s some pics! (I’ll post more later of the 2 & LG)

Out of curiosity, is the Little Giant supposed to be mounted that way? Sideways and upside down?
Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

No. The Little Giant was originally facing normal, but due to age and poor mounting, it gradually started pointing up at the sky.

Wow, that siren has seen better days. How do you plan on restoring it?
