Question for security system technicians/enthusiasts

Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:30 pm

I was big into security systems when I was younger and recently started getting into the hobby again.
I am curious if any other enthusiasts have any information on this company, Westec Security. Below are two websites, their official website (Last updated in 2015, but I may try to give them a phone call), and a website with pictures and basic user instructions for all of their systems. They are unique in that many of the systems they offer appear to be designed by them (most companies do not do this; Vivint sources from 2GIG, ADT usually sources from Honeywell and sometimes DSC, etc) I was only aware of the 5000 keypad, which was installed in the home of a close friend. However, digging deeper, it seems that they offered multiple systems and keypad designs, also seemingly outsourcing products for some systems; the Westec 6000 appears to be a rebranded DSC PowerSeries system or something like that.
There are at least two houses in my area with Westec signs planted in the front yard, so their systems don't seem terribly uncommon, just obscure. There is a surprising lack of info, as well as no test videos, which even the most obscure systems usually have.

Does anyone know anything about this company?

EDIT: After digging on some forums, I found that Westec is, and I quote, "long out of business" any other info is still appreciated

Sirens may not be sexy, but they sure work.

Hello, security system enthusiast here!
This seems to be a company that is more on the down low side, never heard of it. I recommend looking at PDF files you find relating to the company about the products. I find that the wayback machine to help find out about discontinued products. It's more than likely a security provider that is specifically in, or near your area.

Here's the thing about it being in my area- the website says "Serving San Luis Obispo County". That is definitely not where I am! They are some odd nation-wide company it seems... but good idea. I will make sure to do that.

Hm. Maybe they have 2 offices and the one you have the website to is for the other one?
EDIT: I think it may be a less popular company that only some homes choose. https://www.westecsecurity.com/#About_Us
