In Wilmington, Ohio there was also a Thunderbeam behind Roy E. Holmes Elementary School (where the Whelen stands now), one behind Wilmington High School (there is an abandoned pole still in place), and one at the Wilmington Street Department on S. Walnut Street (where the Whelen stands now). There was also a 2001-SRN for a short period of time at the Wilmington Air Park that was replaced with a Whelen Vortex.

I just looked at the map again and noticed some errors that need corrected. First, the siren behind Roy E. Holmes Elementary School on W. Truesdell Street in Wilmington was not a Federal Thunderbolt, but a Federal Thunderbeam. Secondly, there was a Federal Thunderbeam behind Wilmington High School (there is an abandoned pole still in place, screenshot of former location below), and a Thunderbeam at the Wilmington Street Department on S. Walnut Street (where the Whelen stands now). Those haven’t been added to the map yet.

Former location of Thunderbeam behind Wilmington High School:

Thanks! It’s good to know about Wilmington’s old system because there’s not much known

No problem! I just found out a few years ago about many of the old sirens Wilmington had after wondering for many years. I found historic aerial photos on the county GIS website and was able to determine what the old sirens were that Wilmington had. I added a link to my previous post with screenshots of aerial images of the old system. 2 of Wilmington’s Thunderbeams went to Clarksville (only one works as of now as one was likely struck by lightning), and the other 2 went to Blanchester (again only one works, the other was removed after it stopped working). The 2 Thunderbolts from Wilmington also went to Blanchester (they can be seen in aerial imagery from 2004 on the ground at the old fire department in Blanchester) but were never installed as far as I know. I wonder if they still have them in storage or if they scrapped them?

I went to the blanchester beam that works it doesn’t sound too good, I’ve seen the grounded Beam up close in blanchester, that’s cool that 2 bolts went to Blanchester too, if you have any other info about removed sirens that aren’t on the map let me know !

Bucyrus: EOWS 612 ; Bland Ave. at Willard (where the state highway maint yard is). I think there was also another 612 at the fairgrounds.

There used to be an HOR Super Sirex dual-head on the roof of the old Jeep Parkway Assembly Plant in Toledo, which was completely demolished by 2007. Specific location: 41.68431684539532, -83.56421269570006
