I have went to chemring energetics and I found the siren, it is visible from the gates but still a bit far, around 200 metres or so away.ihavenoidea wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 11:14 pmGot a mystery siren here, was looking online and saw that there is a siren near Saltcoats, at a plant call Chemring Energetics. Reports say that it sounded like a WW2 siren, so could be anything such as a Carter (or something newer and similar sounding like a Klaxon/Secomak GP) and is a plant warning siren. Not been able to see anything from streetview, which is rather outdated being from 2011. I'll link the news article and location, if anyone has any ideas as to where and what it is, feel free to add on.
P.S. The siren in the photo on the news article is not the one it is talking about, I'm actually pretty sure that's the one in Altrincham that's got a listed status

Not too much of an exciting update, but I've found more proof of sirens existing. From gathering information from local residents, I've found a wealth of siren locations in Carlisle, however unfortunately there is little to no proof of their existence other than people's recollections.
HOWEVER, I have found proof of existence for two locations which I previously suspected to have housed sirens:
54.94074590716438, -2.972753713416771
You can see here that a metal cable pipe leads up to the roof, however the siren it likely powered has been removed. Likely will have been a Gents Tangent Type 1472, as one already exists in the area, and they seem to be commonly used on WWI-era RAF sites.

On the roof here, part of the roofing material has been cut away for the siren which was once installed here. It seems to fit the dimensions of the mounting base of a Gents Tangent Type 1472, which would make sense for the same reason as above.
