My uncle and I went on a siren hunt today, mainly in the south end of Louisville, to see if the siren map I have was right about the models we have. My uncle took pictures of eight sirens, but I don't know how to post them here, and they're in BMP format.

The first place we went was Bethany Lane, where a Triad was listed. There is in deed still a 2T22 there, and I assume it's still in service. My uncle even counted the horns, just to be sure. Then, we went to a power plant, where we had a very close call with Security, and got a picture of a 2001. We also went to the location that had the Alertronic siren a couple of years ago, and we found a shiny, brand new 2001 in it's place. :( :o The new siren didn't even have any dirt on it at all, so it could have been put up as recently as this past month. I thought I heard an extra 2001 on February 5, and that must have been it. My uncle even got a picture of the Federal Signal tag on it.

Other sirens we took pictures of, were the grey low pitched Thunderbolt at PRP fire station #1, which has been repainted a tan color, the Thunderbolt that had the broken rotator at Kerrick Elementary School, and the Thunderbolt at Iroquois Highschool. We also got pictures of the 2001's at Valley View Baptist Church, and Auburndale Elementary School. The PRP fire station and Iroquois Highschool Thunderbolts were both incorrectly listed as 2001's on the siren map. I'm glad there are still TBolts in those locations. :D Another siren we looked for, was a Thunderbolt, which was supposed to be at one of the old University of Louisville buildings, but we couldn't find it. It was either taken down when the building was demolished, or we just couldn't see it.

Also, my uncle saw another 2T22, when he was on his way to pick me up. That 2T22 is only about a quarter of a mile from his house. I hope to get a recording of that siren, before it's replaced with a 2001.

If anyone can help me with posting our pictures, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I'm totally blind, and I can't access the PDF version of the map that's on the internet, so I called Emergency Management, and they sent me a text version of the map via e-mail. You can probably go to your Emergency Management's website, and find a map of the sirens in your area. The map may not tell you the siren models, so you may need to go on a siren hunt to find out what they are. Here's a link to the PDF version of the map I have.

Since the map was made in 2005, some of the information is out of date. For example, they still have Siren 41 listed at Trunnel Elementary School, but that siren was moved to Doss Highschool. Some of the siren models on the map are just plain incorrect.

I now have the pictures we took in JPG format.

Brand new 2001 that replaced the Alertronic at Lower Hunters Trace

Millcreek 2001, where we almost got busted:

If anyone knows the exact models of any of these sirens, please let me know. I read something on YouTube today, where someone who lives in Louisville, said we have a Thunderbolt 1000, and even a 1003, both in St. Mathews.

I'd like to thank Uncle Dave for taking these pics, and converting them to JPG format for me, so you all could see them. I can't see them myself, so if for some reason some of them didn't post, please let me know.

Hyper linked images of excessive resolution, broke forum formatting.

Hey Josh,
I happen to know where the 1000 is located. It's located out by 330 S. Hubbards Lane, at Waggener Traditional High School on there property at the end of the football fields. As far as i remember it was still Locked in the "On" position and was recently tested. The 1003 should be located up Shelbyville Rd. up near The Mall, go to the rear parking lot and drive to the very back corner, there is a 1003 there. As far as i know from city EMA we dont use the fire signal anymore on that particular 1003.

Hello Minerva, and welcome to the board! It's good to hear from another siren enthusiast from here in Louisville! According to the siren map, there's only one Thunderbolt on Shelbyville Road, and it's located at Eastern Highschool. I'm not as familiar with the east end as I am the south end, so could you please tell me a little more about where that 1003 is? If you have the siren number, that would be even better! You may be able to find it in the PDF file I posted a link to earlier. I'll send you a PM with a copy of the text version of the map.

I found the Thunderbolt you were talking about at Waggener Highschool on the map. I'll have to get down there and record it.

Do you know if we still have any 4/5 port 1000T's left?

I'm not for sure of what that sirens location map number is, but i can give you directions on how to get to it seeing since you are not famillar with that end of town. I know that its still there if in fact our city hasent taken it down and replaced it with one of those pesky 2001-130's.

by the way i can give you a secret location to the citys yard where they store all the old taken down xt22s, tbolts, ect. just go down I-65 till you get to Hill St. rd and get off at that underpass by the Railroad tracks, under there is a fenced off area where they "used" and probally still do have those sirens.

I don't think they're putting up any 2001-130's, but I could be wrong. All of the 2001's we've seen so far are the SRNB variation. Their sound does carry well, but they sound like fire trucks, especially in Attack mode. They sure don't get my attention as well as the good old Thunderbolts do!

Thanks for telling me where those old sirens are kept! My uncle and I were just talking last week about where they might keep the sirens they're repairing. I might call the city, and see if I can get one of those old sirens from them. I'd love to have a Thunderbolt!

BTW, please send me a private message with your e-mail address if you don't mind. I'd love to talk further, and you could give me directions to that 1003.

Also, do you have any siren recordings? If so, you can post them in the Audio/Video forum. I'd love to hear them! I have some of mine there, but they're all audio only, since I'm visually impaired, and I would have trouble with a video camera.

I think i have a couple somewhere, and i think one of them is a video of the WTHS Tbolt, which happens to be a 1000? or a 1000T variant? But any how the other recording happens to be a actual warning that happened in october of last year i think. ill try to post them soon.

Do you happen to know if that ASC Alertornic would happen to be in storage at the power plant in PRP? or was it scrapped to its demise :?: [/quote]
