Oddball Federal Siren

Wed Feb 27, 2008 6:18 pm

Check out this nice video I found of what looks like some kind of Federal abortion sounding for a test in Cooleemee, NC. This video is made even better by the Diaphram horn blasting away for the cycle as well! A truely classic and awesome sound... the only thing bad was that he didn't photograph the horn(s) at all so we can't see what they are. What a great video though!!

I think it's "abomination". Anyways, weird siren, I'll have to check it out sometime.

That thing looks like a Darley model with its original top louvre replaced.

What a video, too!

The Federal C-3? located atop Ypsilanti Twp. Station #3, sounds just like this siren. It has eight ports and is low pitched just like the Cooleemee siren, and even has a slow pickup. Sadly, both sirens sound really underpowered. However, in the case of the Ypsilanti Twp. siren, it can run off of either 120 or 240 single-phase AC, and they have it set to the former rating. I wonder if this is the same case with the Cooleemee siren?

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

Question: 2 or 3 hats?
There is a thunderbolt siren in my head, it is always going off...

Cool sounding siren! It sounds like it has 12 ports though. It sounds like an underpowered STH-10. The horn blasts remind me of a horn you would hear at a basketball game, but the horn sounds cool.

Nope, in tribute to my good friend Steelman Hiles.... I used his word for an oddball siren.

I like the old 2+2 tones that activate it myself! 8)
