Brea Thunderbolt

Sat May 10, 2008 11:18 pm

This is the Thunderbolt Siren at Brea Fire Station #1. SoundOff and I met at the open house event we ask if it could be sounded afterwards. SoundOff got to press the switch on the AR-timer while I filmed.

Awesome. Is it for volunteer FDs or for weather? Nice to see a Thunderbolt still in operation with this sea of electronics.

That's cool!

What does the fire station use the siren for, tornados, or fire calls?

It was used for Civil Defense when the coldwar was still going on, it was taken out of active duty in 1996. It's not a volunteer fire department. This station also used to have a fallout shelter.

Why are they keeping the Thunderbolt then? Just curious. Most sirens that were used only for Civil Defense were taken down a long time ago. Glad this one's still up.
