Up close and personal with a Federal Signal 2001-130

Sat Jul 05, 2008 1:51 am

I decided to venture down to the Federal Signal 2001-130 that was recently installed near me. I will attempt to record this siren tomorrow for the monthly test at 1:00 PM but I can't make any guarantees.

EDIT: If you look at the power lever in the video you'll notice that it is turned to the "off" position. Looks like I'm going to have to find another siren to record...

NOTE: There is one cuss word at the end so you may want to turn your volume down/off if someone is around you that may be offended by it.

This sort of "tour" of a siren is the kind of thing I'd like to do in my area if I had the time or a way of getting to the sirens. I usually have neither.
I left this board in early 2010. I am not a part of the siren community in any sense anymore. I will not provide assistance or information.

Do you have any idea why the power lever is in the off position?

Given that it was recently installed, the city may be in the process of installing a new system and may not "switch on" the sirens until they're all up/running as well as their new command center for controlling them.

Another note about the 130: There's also no transformer installed on the nearby utility pole, and the power wires are hanging down from the service head on the 130's pole. Apparently they're at the stage where they're waiting on the power company to come out and install the transformer and hook up the wires.

Oh well, despite him not being able to get the 2001-130 recorded, he did manage to get a video of a 2001-SRN at the local fire station!

When ever we get new sirens...first they have to bid on different sirens...then they install the new one and then its still another week or so until the antenna is installed and finally...power!

Well on the township website it says the installation is set for July 2008 so maybe they just set the siren up and are waiting to connect it sometime in July.

Anyone know when federal is going to start combing their components in the SAME cabinet? SERIOUSLY!! It looks like their engineering department is nonexistent.
If it ain't made in America it shouldn't be here!
