I had nothing planned for Sunday, So I went to 12 Oaks Mall to see if any outside Fallout Shelters Signs survive. I didn't find any :( . So since I was already out that far, I did a little driving :D

Great photos! Looks like you went through Hell to get some of them. (sorry) I've heard it really does freeze over, though. (sorry again)

Actually, my aunt once lived in Dexter, which is near Hell.

Nice! Glad to see Fenton's STL-10 is back in place (after the tornado a few years ago).

BTW did you actually get to "Go To Hell"? Wonder what's there. :)

Nice photos. Thank you.

What is that YELLOW BOX on the traffic signal?
Not the correct place for a pedestrian signal.

Directly on the stator is the wrong place to strap fastener wires on this water tank siren.

What is the tiny Hamburg fire station siren for?
To warn streetraffic when a fire truck is responding?

That would be a Federal Model K. Looks like they either ordered it without the light, or they removed it. It's basically like a Model L, only mounted vertically instead of on a swivel base, and normally it would have a red light on top.

The Model K is the bottom one with the light.

I like the looks of that Model K for some reason, now I need one in my collection!

It looks like they moved that 2001DC in Novi a little further back from the intersection. It used to be right up against 10 Mile Rd. but in that picture it looks like they moved it a little to the south along Beck Rd.

Excellent photos! I you would have went a little further west, I believe Hell at one time did have a Federal Model 2. However, the Unadilla Twp. Fire Dept. does have a Model 7AT, at their old fire station that is painted yellow.

The neighboring Ingham County community of Stockbridge, did have a Federal Lion under their old water tower. When the old water tower was taken down, either the old Federal was scrapped, moved someplace else, or just plain replaced by something new? I believe I have a photo of it in my old 35 mm slide film collection of sirens.

Sincerely yours,

Ron W.

I was also on a road trip yesterday. I drove out to Chillicothe to see one of my favorite bands (ApologetiX) in concert.

I took a nice trip up I-71 to State Route 73, through Wilmington to US22/SR3. Followed 22/3 out to Washington Court House, and caught US-35 from there to Chillicothe.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take any side trips to nearby small towns, but I did see two sirens along the way. Nothing interesting though - both are Whelens like the one in the picture above.

One is behind the fire station on Rambach Road (US22/SR3/SR73) in Wilmington and the other was behind a fire station off of Schrader Road in Chillicothe.
