While the idea of providing a NOAA weather radio is nice, they are missing the point. The point is that the sirens are meant to warn people that are outdoors. When the siren sounds, it means that the people should be tuning in to their radios, tv's, and whatnot. And while some may hear the siren from indoors, most will not, or barely hear them indoors.
And most will turn off those NOAA radios when they keep going off for flood warnings not in their areas, for example. (I'm assuming that some may not know how to program their radios to respond to warnings in their particular area, and which warnings to respond to)
Wasn't there something like grant money from FEMA that can be used for siren replacement / repair?
IMHO, the NOAA radio is designed to augment the siren, not replace it. The officials of Saline County need to think this one through carefully and not make hasty descisions.
