Wow, I think we've found almost all the sirens in KC! I was in Independence today and I noticed that there is a brand new 2001-130 at the intersection of Arlington and 23rd St., strange to put one there since there is a 2001-DC on Westport and a MOD 2008 in a park a few blocks away. I read back in December that the city had given the EMA about $150,000 to purchase new warning sirens. They also had changed there testing policy, they now test at 11:00 and again at 12:00. I also found an article on Smithville's newspaper website about the new Whelen's, the article included a list of all of the new Vortex's locations (there are 11 in all), the company that installed them(Safetycom, Whelen's version of BVPS execpt there in Little Rock, AR), and the test time. the first Wednesday of the month at noon.

I did some searching around on the internet to find out more about the local systems and test times. Here's all that I found out.

1. Excelsior Springs is going to replace all of there EOWS 612s, the replacement vendor is BVPS and judging by the information I read the new sirens will be 2001-130s (really big downgrade).

2.The sirens test times for Harrisonville, Peculier, Smithville, Liberty, Blue Springs, Independence, and Belton.

3. Independence has put up some new sirens apparentlly. They added a few 2001-130s, the only one I've found so far is at the intersection of 23rd St. and Arlington.

Well the ST*-10 that was in Belton behind the QT on 58 hwy (the light gray one in front of the fun center)is no more. Thought it looked in really good shape but it was replaced in the last week. What's funny though is instead of replacing it with a Modulator like the majority of the replacements in Belton, they replaced it with a 2001-130. Wonder why? Cost? Coverage? Its right near the Belton/Raymore city line and Raymore has mostly 2001s. Here are links to the pics...even replaced the pole!!!

Well Belton has been busy...
First they replaced the st*-10 behind QT (in front of aarons family fun center)with a 2001-130.
Now they replaced the 2T22 off Scott Ave at the entrance to Tuscany mobile home park with another 2001-130. Thas two 130s Belton has installed. They were installing Modulators quite regularly. Wonder why the switch to 2001-130's? Anyone have any idea? Take care!

What's the word on the t-bolt in independence?

I assume we deemed it not working but I could be wrong.

The Thunderbolt in downtown Independence is inactive. The replacement was a 2001-SRNB. I found some sort of document on Google from the Fort Osage Fire District that has a section about the sirens and says that the FD has started takeing bids from the replacement of the Sibley, Atherton , and Levasy sirens (I think that they're old Banshee's or Model 300s) and installation of a siren in Buckner. Other than that the only other thing I know that's been going on around here's is that BVPS did some work on the Pink Hill Park Thunderbolt and it's now a 1000 (single tone).
