I don't remember seeing any sirens in those areas, although I wasn't looking for them, but about an hour northwest of Reno is the town of Chilcoot, California, which has one of those cone-shaped "Pearl Harbor" sirens from WWII.

There's either a Model 5 or an STH10 or similar siren (if I recall) in Minden, ontop of an old firehouse. Forgive me for not remembering which... I saw a ton of sirens on that trip and am a little confused which one/where. I have a photo someplace, but not in this computer. It's easier to see it when going northbound on 395 off to your left on a wooden tower atop the building, and barely visible beyond the roof from the front of the firehouse. There is also a very suspicious thing ontop of the historic Capital Building in Carson. Not sure what it is, but it could be a siren housing.

I believe the firehouse siren is within a block of one of these locations in Minden:

My best guess at remembering, and having looked at Google Maps satellite view; 395/Main St between 3rd & 4th

#2 possibility is 395/Main St at Toler Ave

It's definitely on the west side of 395, and visible from northbound 395 (not so much southbound due to being at the wrong angle as the road bends).

Yes, that's a real 500-lb Federal SD-10 I'm holding (braggart!)

Be sure to check out the railroad museum. They've got some of the oldest operational western style steam locomotives on the planet.
