I found a model 2 and other NJ sirens

Tue Nov 24, 2009 8:48 pm

Its in my grandmother's neighborhood. I am guessing its in the middle of this neighborhood because Camp Kilmar is just up the road from this siren. Unfortunately, after inspecting it a few times I found out that the town disconnected it. When I asked my grandmother when was the last time she heard it and she said that it hasnt been heard for ages. I would like to contact my town and ask them to purchase it. Has anyone here had any success buying a decommissioned siren from a town?

Oh and here are some other old air raid sirens of NJ.

Another model 5. NJ seems to be a breeding ground for these.

Alright, I am at a loss... where are these sirens located at? I thought the one was at the Possumtown Fire Department and another one looks sort of like the Dunellen Rescue Squad (though I didn't think the building was so small). Where are they all from??

Thank you,

Fritz

The first model 5 is found at the South Plainfield VFD. The SD-10 is from the Dunellen Rescue Squad, second model 5 is from the Possumtown FD, and the last model 5 is from a FD in Watchang NJ or some where near there.

The model 2 is in Edison, which, at one time, was peppered with them. I remember one on Miko Road and Ashley Road, about a mile away as the crow flies. There were sirens all over the township. And horns (diaphones) too. And there were several model 5/7's too. The street sirens have been disconnected for decades, and may very well have been forgotten.

purchasing sirens

I aquired a model 2 from my town about ten years ago. In regards to contacting your city, it really depends on who you talk to. I suggest going to the fire dept. They'll probably refer you to someone in the city's OES.
Hopefully, you'll get a person who is relatively prompt in a response.
If you do get the siren, they might have you sign a waver saying 'you can't set this off in city limits...' Just some thoughts.

Good luck :)

I have found the first model 5 in Edison on New Durham Rd and its about to fall to the ground. I am guessing due to lack of maintenance the pole rotted and the siren is now propped up against a tree. I wanna ask my town for this model 5 since it does have to come down due to safety reasons unlike the model 2. I'll ask them some day and I hope to get one of them.

Miko and Ashley? Was that siren taken down?
