Now here is a good comparison which siren do you think will grab you're attention? The F.S. 2001 or the ASC T-128. I have to go with the T-128.

F.S. 2001 in attack mode.

ASC T-128 in attack mode.

I think the T-128 has a more urgent and "hey there is something wrong take cover" sound to it.

I agree with you Jason. In my opinion, the T-128 is what a siren should sound like. However, the Thunderbolt 1000T is a better sounding siren than the T-128. Unfortunately the Thunderbolts are the ones that are getting replaced.

2001 testing

Tue Mar 16, 2010 3:31 am

Guys......There has been 71 posts and not one shred of evidence that Federal actually tested the 2001-130, redesigned the old 2001 to add 3 or 4 db, Thanks for all your input.

On that, please remember that it's roughly a 3dB increase in output that equals double the acoustical energy...meaning essentially that with their ratings, it would take 2 older 2001s running next to each other at the same time (disregarding phase interactions) to equal the output of a 2001-130. That difference in output seems highly unlikely to me.

I looked all over the internet for some kind of evidence
of testing for the 2001-130 and I could not find anything. ASC has a footnote on the T-128 spec sheet mentioning that all of their sirens are tested to ANSI standards. Federal does not even mention that on the 2001-130 spec sheet.

Federal doesn't even mention in the 130's cutsheet what conditions the 70 DB rating testing was performed under.

Here is a link to the FTC website about Federal Signal's sanctions. It is between pages 222 and 230 or on your thumbnail at page 11-20.
