Which county were you referring to to replace the 2001s with T-128s? If it's Hamilton County, we should only get rid of 3 of them since those 3 are SRNBs and that model really isn't that reliable. All of the other 2001s in Hamilton County are DCs and SRNs, which are ok.
Resident of a county with big a mixture of sirens, but in the process of being replaced. :(

I'm talking about Warren County. Read back to Nick's first post:
While heading to my Aunt's & Uncle's in Lebanon today for an Easter brunch, I saw an American Signal T-128 (or T-135). It was hard to tell because it was facing North and we were headed North. It is located at the Warren County Community Services Building. It is on Ohio 741 between the Ohio 63 and Ohio 741 Intersection and Circle Drive.

Oh ok sorry. It would be pretty hard though to convince any EMA director about what to do with sirens.

You're right. EMA directors aren't paid to be siren enthusiasts and most of them aren't. The siren system is just part of their job.

In Hamilton County, how much of the purchasing decision is in the EMA director's hands? Who writes the specs and the RFP? Do the commissioners vote on accepting the specs? Is a review done of the proposed vendors?

Subject of your reply is Hamilton County.

Is Mike Snowden(Hamilton County EMA director) a siren enthusiast, or would this be something else we wouldn't believe?

Looks like there is problems with the activation system in Indy by Federal. Here is the link to the story. These are the things we can look forward to in Hamilton County. Wow can't wait.

I certainly hope not. How are the contract bids going? Anything new happening?

That reminds me of when Hamilton County's sirens failed to sound during the October 1, 1977 tornado. But then, it was human error and not a software glitch that caused the problem.

Articles from the Cincinnati Enquirer about that event (click to enlarge):

"Test of warning system to follow mixup"

"Simplified warning system could prevent 'human error'" (Werden Electric is mentioned in this article)
