I wonder how many coats of sunburst or safety yellow you'ld have to apply to get the thing to live and look good outdoors many years to come?
I put a coat of primer and a coat of Rustoleum SBY on my 1000 I restored. That siren has been up at Mosslake now for 3? years and I can't see any difference in the paint. Looks like it's holding up to me. It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts.

Yellow paint made today sucks. It takes a million coats to cover something.
I figured out a solution to this... I use a couple coats of white sandable primer, then the yellow goes on in 2 or 3 coats very nicely. When I tried the exact same paint over gray primer, it NEVER DID totally cover up. The white worked like a miracle.

On my restored 1000/T I used SBY also, but the majority of parts were painted with the oil base out of a can. And I did use a roller :D
Mine should be bright yellow for a long time, since it's stored out of the sun for the majority of the year.

So would you recommended rolling on the paint or spraying it on?

Rolling certainly gives a different finish to spraying. Then again it depends what you use to roll it on and what finish you want!

I don't know if Ace still sells that color, I'll have to check and see.
I had to special order the paint charlie when I did my siren. Its not a common seller so they don't stock it. I ended up using 2 cases of schoolbus yellow on my Thunderbolt. There were 6 cans per case so I used all 12 cans on that siren.

Sunburst yellow looks really good, but rustoleum doesn't have the UV inhibitors found in other paints. You can hit it with some cheap clearcoat and make it last longer though. Enamel hardener really helps also.

Personally I prefer tisco new cat yellow, it fades more gracefully than the brighter yellows.
