We need a wiki.

Mon Nov 08, 2010 6:36 pm

Well, I just got to thinking today.

Why shouldn't we have a "Warning Sirens Wiki", just to archive the information we've learned over the years?

However, I also thought, It can't be something like "Wikipedia" where people were trying to map out where siren enthusiasts were located..etc.

So, I just made a little rough draft of one on "Wikia" and I'm going to post a link if anyone wants to do any work on there.

http://warningsirens.wikia.com/

and another wiki I also found I am contributing to.

Could be very cool. Useful too...

These are just examples, what "I" think would be best is if we incorporated a wiki onto the airraidsirens server, and have it moderated by the same moderators on the fourm, and some additional ones also.

Honestly I'm against the wiki idea. From what I saw from experience, wikis cause a lot of drama.

To begin with, editing wars with data that is usually fake and can not be verified for one. Second, the stuff from the wiki will spread onto the board, thus leading the drama here about people whining how their edit got reverted, or that it got changed. Also, many people frown upon wikis for reliable data.

I was all for the wiki before I read this, well stated!

Now for my thoughts:

I can see where that would be a problem (like the guy who thinks he's a Sterling Siren historian, can't think of his name, but you guys will know who I'm talking about), I like the wiki idea so the upkeep can be easily spread across several people, it would almost have to be a "closed" wiki to where only moderators and such can edit the wiki, that is the only way I can think of the prevent the problems hen7713 pointed out.

Another way to prevent these issues from arising is a "verification" system, where the wiki admins have to approve of the edits before it is committed to the wiki.
