They were Whelen's first type of siren that they manufactred. I think it had 4 vertical speaker cells.

FWIW, there's one in Westport, Connecticut, on the north side of I-95 between exits 17 and 18, next to a railroad track. Why it's there, I have no idea.

St. Louis County has a few of these scattered throughout the system. This one is just south of Lambert St. Louis Int'l. As far as performance, I think they are about 113-115dB@100'. This siren, to the best of my knowledge, came out in the late 70's early 80's. St Louis installed the system in 1982 (?)

Yes, St. Louis County (Mo.) has quite a few of these 2000R's in their system, along with several of the Whelen WPS-3016's. The system was installed in the summer of 1982. Some of the 3016's have already malfunctioned and have been replaced by Whelen WPS-4003's. The St. Louis County EMA is looking at installing Whelen WPS-2900 series sirens from now on. One 2909 is now in place in Brentwood.

I believe that the 2000R's have the same decibal rating as the 3016's, around 124dB @ 100 feet.

Only thing I've seen in that area is a WPS 2805, is this the same siren? If not I've got to take a drive through there and check it out.

No, you're right and I'm wrong. Sorry. It's not the siren in the picture above. BTW, there's two EOWS612s in Fairfield and a 1212 in Norwalk. They're all for storm surge flooding near the beach.

That *reminds* me of a thunderbolt, wish they would paint all Whelens safety yellow.

As far as the end of this siren goes...I'd say 1988-1990...why? Hmmmmmmmm. Let's think about that. Could it be.....advances in technology? I think not...
