Is an SD-10 any more or less efficient without the rotor cover?

I think that an SD-10 would be less-efficient without the cover, though not that much, as the cover is what forces the sound against the cones in a more organized and concentrated manner.
BTW, I thought that the SD-10 recorded was going to be more yellow than that!

The SD10 was yellow about 25 years ago.. somewhere someone painted it gray.. That's going to change real soon though.. It will be red or yellow when the spring comes.
As far as the housing on the SD10's. Without that housing the siren would sound "tin"E" , no base. ( think of a speaker without its wooden cabinate) I can tell the sound difference between a 5T and SD10 from a mile away just from the difference that the SD10 housing makes. The housing on a SD10 amplifies it's sound and makes it more robust with a fuller sound than that of the 5T. Although both sirens use the same rotor and stator, the SD10 has a slightley different output sound. The SD10 also has a farther audible range on it's output do to it's projection style housing..
