Wow, I'm from the St. Louis area and I missed this one on the news last night!

For the out-of-town siren enthusiasts, Wildwood is an affluent municipality located in the western section of St. Louis County, so this story doesn't surprise me at all!

Another crybaby case of "We want it here, just not in our backyards" B.S.!

They're worried about home values because a siren was placed there?! Give me a break, you freakin' snooty snobby whiners! And let's REALLY dramatize things by whining about "delicate ears" hearing it! Here's a hint: Stay indoors at 11 AM on the first Monday of the month when they test the sirens!

I don't know where the community center is located but I'm sure someone'll p--s and moan because it was placed there as well.

Does the siren look great smack-dab in a residential neighborhood? No, not really, but the Whelen folks placed it there for a reason. When the surveys were being done on where to place these new 2910s, this siren just happened to end up there. Live with it. Embrace it. It just may save your lives!

Idiots, all of them! Those whelen Omnis have to be the sleekest looking sirens I have ever seen in all my years. I mean really, it looks like a somesort of light, doesn't it? Maybe the county should go stick up a rusty old thunderbolt with the paint peeling, just to piss them off
Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.

Wait, concerns over safety ? Would it be better to be bulldozed by a tornado with no warning? They are obviously outdoors a lot, and isn't that a fit place for an outdoor warning siren. The richer, more glamorous neighborhoods like that in Jenks have 2910s smack-dab in the middle of them, and do they complain? No. They've been interviewed by news there, and they love to be prepared for tornadoes, floods, what have you.

Absolute nonsense. :?

You know, I think this may be a good time to quote good ol' George Carlin.

"We've got something in this country, you've heard it it's called NIMBY. N-I-M-B-Y, not in my backyard. People don't want anything, any kind of social help anywhere near 'em! You try to open up a halfway house, try to open up a drug rehab, or an alcohol rehab center, try to do a homeless shelter somewhere, or try to open up a little home for retarded people who want to work their way into the community, people say not in my backyard! People don't want anything near 'em, especially if it might help somebody else."

Yes, this IS the same county that got hit by an EF-4 tornado just 3 weeks ago! How soon they forget.

N.I.M.B.Y. is a perfect theme for this story!

uncommonsense

Yeah, FedTB hit the nail on the head.

Wildwood is home to St. Louis's spoiled snobs. People who have just enough to think they're better than everyone else without actually being better than anyone else (though is anyone, really?)

That siren ought to humble them. Make them deal with it. When they get bulldozed like Bridgeton did--and yes, its possible--then what will they say? Why couldn't we hear the sirens!
