Wow, 9 days left on the Model J. That price is going to jack up pretty fast like the $0.01 ThunderBolt did!

I vote for a model L or D. They can be had in 120VAC, and at least older ones have decent cast choppers and are solidly built. A police car/ fire siren might be OK too, but the 12 volt motors are big and heavy.

Ok, neat. Like the description says on the Model A, it sound weird. The Model L has a slow wind up and a fast wind down. There both pretty neat sirens.

My first siren is my Fedelcode Model 5; Its currently in pieces at various locations around the city. Its been a bear to restore and there's still a lot of work to be done with it. I suggest going with something small that doesn't need much work, so you don't get caught in a multi-year restoration with limited time and money to spend. That's just my two cents (about all I have left after buying some paint for the model 5  )

speaking of, I've been thinking of getting one of those dual-shaft motors from Grainger and building a dual-head siren out of my model L and D loud parts. a 5/8 port siren should sound weird...

Yeah. Just something little that will get me started, then move onto something more advanced, like maybe a ThunderBolt or an Erick's siren! Or a model 5 :) I'm just a young siren fan.

AFAIK they all have the same motor. if there's a difference in wind-up and wind-down, it has to be due to the mass of the chopper.
