The Army base is not filled in for some reason on this version of our map. I'm sure it will be corrected with the next revision. Ther are 1 or 2 sirens missing from that map....that were more recent installs, but it is the most current map we have.

May I ask what type of siren most of them are? I don't live to far from Downtown Birmingham,and I was hoping to get recordings from surrounding counties;or most of Alabama's counties.

Most are 2001's. We do still have some Thunderbeams and a few 2Ts out there. Both of our Modulator's have been deadlined. Our old Altec Giant Voice system was deadlined several years ago.

I'm going to fill in the ones in Ballston Spa. There's only 2 of them that I know of. I'll see if I can find more before I share my map.

EDIT: Here you go. I found a newspaper article from 1998 saying how the 2 fire alarms would sound for a few minutes for a tornado warning. So far, the only thing that was changed is a model 5 was just recently (within the last few months) replaced by a Model 2. You've gotta wonder why these are so close together, being the only sirens in town.

Also the one where you thought u saw a model 5/7, you were right there is a siren just up the nearest road on the right but i belive it's a model 2.

Tests are first Wednesdays of the month at noon. We only do a 15 second "growl" test though. We only do that if it isnt too cloudy outside to avoid panic.

If you wanted to do a longer test on a Thunderbeam, we might could arrange that. I'd have to ask the boss to be sure. We have done such things for news media cameras before.
