We've got a Thunderbolt that sits on top of the roof that used to be CITI bank, but is now PNC bank. Not sure where there'd be other roof mounted sirens in the Champaign, Urbana Area.

Mrthunderbolt1003..great pictures of the Chattanooga sirens! I lived in Atlanta from 1971-89; made several trips a year back home to Nashville. I saw the Mary Walker Towers Tbolt every trip..and still see it on my fall/spring trips back to Atlanta.

Can't tell you how many years the siren has been pointing the same direction(towards I-24).

I spotted the Belvoir Pharmacy siren when visiting friend in Chattanooga about 8 or 9 years ago; was amazed at how LOW it is mounted! I've seen it once or twice since then..still pointed toward Brainerd Rd.

notredame1003 posted photo of the Gary, IN Tbolt. During the summer of '06 I attended a convention in Chicago. One morning we rode buses to Valparaiso, (IN) University, so went right through Gary on the interstate. I recall seeing this siren then. Its placement made me wonder how much that dome on top of building would interfere with its sound coverage.

Which first one? First one in the topic or in my post? lol

The 1003 in downtown Atlanta (on the courts building) has long been defunct, it has always been pointed the same direction as long as I can remember. Atlanta-proper still doesn't have a working siren system, and hasn't since the 80s I believe.

As for the Model 5 in Macon (first in my post), it's still fully functional for the time being, but I wonder about its fate once they carry out the narrow-banding project on all the receivers for the sirens in the county. I haven't heard yet if they're going to keep it around and add a new radio to control it or just leave it be and decommission it in place after the new activation system is online. No recordings of it yet since it's so hard to find a good spot to be able to not only just see it, but to also hear it clearly without the other sirens surrounding downtown drowning it out. Might try for that one during this month's test, if the weather cooperates.

Roof mounts or pole mounts within a few inches next to a building are pretty popular around here. I'm really wondering how they got that Darley Champion up onto the old National Guard Armory in St. Anthony, the building is five or six stories tall!

I never knew about the Tbolt in downtown Atlanta. However, there were some roof mounted Mobil Directos in the city.

I lived in Cobb County, GA from 1971-89, but was frequently in Atlanta.
Back in the early 70s I attended graduate school during summers at GA State University. The Hurt Bldg. wasn't too far from campus; there was a red M.D. known as "Big Myrtle" atop the building.

Another was on top of building where Coach & 6 Restaurant located. This building was on Peachtree; N of downtown, but S of Buckhead.

There were also M.D.s mounted on back corners of the old Noland buliding(right alongside I-75) and Capitol View School.

Some of Nashville's Tbolts were roof mounted. There were 2 uptown; one on the Bennie Dillon Building and one just a few blocks away atop a bank building. There was one atop a school somewhere N of downtown off 8th Ave. N; also a roof mounted one at Caldwell School in E Nashville and one on the educational building of Eastland Baptist Church.

I think the Birmingham Thunderbolt has been decomissioned. Didn't look in working order.

Speaking of which, I neglected to post photos of that one in my first post! Here's a couple from two different trips by it, one from 2009 and the other from 2011. Also note the siren's horn is in two different positions, so maybe I'm wrong about it being defunct, who knows.

I was referring to the first post but that one EL1998P71 posted in Battle Creek is up there too.

There was the Thunderbolt on the Fort Worth main police station downtown.
I don't know if it's still there. I can't imagine that they have taken the trouble to remove it when there are still old FW Thunderbolts (sitting right next to main roads) that haven't been removed yet.
