Well the MD is at its new home. Even if the last 5 miles of this 800 mile round trip ended on a very bad note...

Today I stayed home from work and emptied out my truck so the wrecker could take it to the body shop.
Also pulled the MD apart. The only shocker was that 100+ pound stator.

Actually Jim I hit a HUGE dog about 5 miles from house and he wound up taking out my radiator, A/C condensor, fan shroud, and both fans (electric and mechanical). I was only doing @50 when he ran out in front of me. Doesn't take much to break something on a truck that's all plastic on the front.

I would have fixed it myself but the A/C was the deal breaker since it's going to have to be vacuumed out and recharged.
And yes the stator is cast iron. Pretty much everything on this siren is either cast iron or steel. The rotor is the only aluminum thing on it. I'm guessing the entire siren assembled weighs about 700 pounds.
Here are some pics I took on the trip and when I got back home. Charlie has lots of pics of the siren before we "rescued" it.
Charlie has a video of us doing a drill runup on it. I can honestly say this thing is WAY louder than the Allertor was.

It's actually quite interesting how that rotor doesn't have the wacky (yet very effective) design that the ACA 9/12 sirens had. Did the 10/12 Allertors (like the ones in Mason City) use this rotor or an updated ACA rotor?

Yeah, when we pulled off the shroud I thought I had an SD-10 inside that thing. The rotor and stator have B&N stamped all over them. It also has the tightest tolerances I've ever seen on ANY siren.
The mason city allertors used this rotor/stator. The ACA 9/12 didn't come out until the 70's.

Hmm... I wonder if the ACA 10/12 Allertor uses the same rotor?

IIRC the SD-10 and 9/12 500T rotors have three vanes. Someone's gonna have to score a 10/12 500T and look at the rotor.
