Looking forward to the video, KDK. Something tells me that this is going to have a tone closer to that of the ASC T-128. Guess it's just a waiting game now.

And on top of that, they just put a tornado warning to the west of us and its heading this way. Want to go wait by the siren and see if it sounds. However, wife is much more "intensive" than that siren could ever be and has informed us that we "WILL NOT BE GO SIREN HUNTING TONIGHT". So, it will still have to wait till Friday. Unreasonable spouses, huh?

This siren isn't even on Federal's website yet. What's up with that?! You would think they'd be wanting to show it off, a.k.a. trying to sell them!
I'm interested in hearing what they sound like. Hopefully they have a much lower pitch than the 2001s.

I think the Equinox we've seen last year was the 508 in the rough; an Eclipse's rotor fitted to a 2001-130. I guess they gave it the green light and now a year later this is probably the housing designed to match the rotor's lower cutoff frequency. Could it be that this still isn't the very final iteration of the design? Maybe that's why it's not on their site yet. It looks like the inner "cone" is actually a doughnut that rounds off at the back area, cause there's no way the rotor can be that big! Can it?This siren isn't even on Federal's website yet. Well, I think it's safe to say that the 2001's days are numbered. You've got to give credit to Federal for realizing the lower pitched design is going to perform better in the real world. It seems like the Equinox was no mistake. We're definitely seeing prototypes for something new. And if this isn't it, 50 years from now, we'll be looking back on this as the modern 550!
Granted, I don't think this is some one off accident. Some serious design, time, and effort went into this.
There's no doubt that this is something designed specifically for the Eclipse's eight port rotor. In fact, it looks to me like this is an entirely new design, not just some kind of evolution of the 2001. If you look at the rear box, you'll notice that it's roundbacked and matches the shape of the veins on the horn. If you also notice, the veins on the horn are more appropriate for eight ports. With the Equinox, it was still the horn of the 2001 ? 130 and it still had 12 veins going to 8 ports. Hence the decibel hit. Finally, it's also quite fascinating to note that the air intake has been moved back to the center cone. If you look at the rear box, you'll notice there's no grate for an air intake anymore. Really, this seems to be an update of the Model 500 more than an update of the 2001. The name can't be a mistake!
That being said, that is definitely the ugliest siren I've ever seen in my life. The first thought I had is that it looked like the byproduct of a Sentry Defender after a diasterous one night stand with a Tupperware bowl! I'm hoping that the aesthetics will be something a little bit more appealing in any further designs!

The 508 will be coming to the website very soon. Amarillo gets the first 508 in Texas and three (3) more 508s will soon be installed in Wilson, OK.

Went and took photos this morning of the new siren. The power is not hooked up yet. Called EMS and they are waiting on the electric company to take care of that. The horn looks to be of fiberglass and the rotator box is somewhat smaller looking that the 2001. Hope they have it up before Friday.
