If all you need are springs, Eurton electric has a large variety available. They can also resurface your commutator. I would contact them. If they ask the motor is a 7.5 horsepower Northwestern Electric repulsion-induction. It does not have a brush lifter and is full time repulsion.

I would get the commutator resurfaced, and make sure the brushes are properly seated before running it all full power. Sounds like your commutator is dirty/worn or the brushes were not seated properly.

If you get it fixed properly and have it painted right, it will last another 25-50 years. Ask them if that is a money pit. What happened to the original video?

I took the video down didn't really see a need to leave it up.

We got an estimate on repairing it but the company told us that the repair would maybe last 10 years and that didn't sit well for some reason. I would prefer to get it sent out and fixed properly but I am acting on behalf of the company and have to go by the collective decision of the voting body.

The commutator was already resurfaced once. Its my understanding that this can only happen once.

Well what is your budget? Have you considered a three phase siren running on a phase converter? You can pick up the three phase ones fairly cheap.

The commutator can be replaced. It depends on the route you want to take. You have to stay on top of the brush wear though, like change them every five years if the siren sees a lot of run time. Get a quote from Eurton on fixing your old armature. You will have to send it to them so they can look at. You might still come in below the cost of getting another siren.
