In that case, why did Monroe County, MI put UV controllers on their old Whelens? That's the sort of scenario I'm thinking of, except that instead of replacing old with new, you're replacing old with old.

They probably did that because they went to a two way system. The federal and whelen two way systems don't jive.

Plus they put a new controller on it, not an old maypop.

I don't think Whelen would sell just controllers like that to be used with other brands of arrays like that. They really only support their old sirens. It CAN be done because these sirens are loudspeakers, BUT Whelen more than likely doesn't support doing it.

Yeah I'm not aware of whelen selling stuff to be used on other brands. But Federal does have a UV with the ability to control a Whelen's rotator in addition to making noise.

Plus, the electronics in the controls aren't like old mechanical sirens. They could run for the next ten years or take a massive dump they day after installation. You just don't know.

The best example would be putting an old Siratone back in service with the Siratone controller. It's not a matter of it fails but when.

Whelen will sell a radio or radio system to towns/cities that want one. They can put one of their alert radios in any siren mechanical or Electronic and use the aux output trigger to close the relay and trigger the siren to go off. The only issue is that its a one way set up and I think only has one function is to turn the unit on. There was a small town near here that was looking into having a whelen encoder installed, and were going to use whelen radios to activate their 2t22s.

Just because you buy one don't mean that it will be compatible with all radio activation types. Federal makes theirs so you're forced to have to use their equipment and so its basically no compatible with anything else but federal stuff

I'm almost positive there's a video out there from not too long ago of a Modulator with a Whelen soundcard. I remember being totally thrown off by it, too. I'll see if I can find it and post it later.

Me, too, especially because if its the video I'm thinking of (its the air conditioner video where the Mod goes off at the end), we decided twice it was just a reprogrammed UltraVoice to sound at a lower peak pitch.

But if that's not it, as much of a Whelen fan as I am, I'll be awaiting it.
