Both the Model 5 and 7 can be 8 or 12. You're right about the "T" variants though.

You're probably thinking of the standard versus the "Fedelcode" housings. The lower lover on the standard one is at the same angle and visibly larger in diameter than the top cone. The other style's lower louver is slanted downward and around the same diameter as the top. I've been told the second type are "Fedelcodes", although I'm not entirely sure if that involves a coding mechanism or not.

I'm thinking he/she may have confused themselves with the differentiation of the STL-10 and the STH-10 models.

I actually originally thought the Model 5 was the low-tone 8-port version and the Model 7 was the high-tone 12-port version because when I looked them up on Youtube, I happened to find a video of a low-tone version that was labeled as a Model 5, and a video of a high-tone that was labeled as a 7. Then I joined this board and somebody told me the same thing that I posted in this thread. There is no difference between the two except the name, and there's no way to tell them apart without looking at the nameplate. I just refer to them as Model 5s no matter what, because that name stuck around longer.

Wrong. Not all are "dual tone" either. High and low tone? Do you care to explain that?
He didn't say they were all dual toned. What does he need to explain? There are high and low toned models.

Both the Model 5 and 7 can be 8 or 12.
I didn't know that the Models 5 & 7 could be customized; or are they "special custom built" for each community? Can someone clarify this?

The Model 5 (since it has been determined there is no difference between 5 and 7 I am going to use 5) could be ordered with a low tone or high tone chopper, it really depended on what you were trying to accomplish with the siren as well as the territory you had to cover. Most of us know the different characteristics of each, but as a review... the low tone model carried better but had a lesser sound output in the local area, the high tone of course was the opposite.. it didn't carry as well but it had more bang for the buck up close. It wasn't really a custom built thing anymore than the Chevy S-10 with a 2.2L 4 cylinder motor vs the V6... it was just an option to chose on 2 standard built products.

Do a 12-port Model 5 and a 12-port Model 7 sound any different?

No. They are the same siren internally, they should sound the same.

I hear the Model 7 has a faster windup than the Model 5. Is that true?
