Re: I wanted to settle this once and for all.

Okay my last point everyone… I would like to point out that I was not trying to be argumentative. I was trying to give everyone a clear point where I was coming from (Which is hard to do at 1 in the morning) and where I got my thinking from. I don't disagree to anything Jeb has said in this thread and I always find his info useful. Thank you Jeb. And actually I wanted to ask because I never had a chance to experiment with this but if my thinking is correct the pitch of the siren can increase or decrease it's loudness? Or it can make it carry further or both?

A C series should be just as loud as an A2, since they both use 4M blowers. Just the C series uses a 2.5 output pipe for a longer distance than the A2 does.

Also realize Federal rated their sirens in both dBA and dBC over the years as well as rating them in anechoic chambers and outside of their facility. Stated dB numbers from years ago don't mean a whole lot. The pitch of the siren and geography/weather of the surrendering area mean a LOT more than a simple 100' measurement.

So if I may ask... Lets use the P50 again because that is part of the thread. If a P50 at ground level is tested on bad weather/geography would the decibel reading be affected? Furthermore at that point could a thunderbolt, being tested at ground level, at it's loudest pitch setting on good weather/geography read higher (Not saying is it louder. I am asking if it could read higher) or be closer to what the P50 reading of this example is? Sorry I am trying to make sure I am following you JasonC.

EDIT: I still want to make sure I am on the same page but one thing I propose: It seems there are too many factors to really get a good measurement. So to satisfy my OCD could we agree that the P15 (NOT P50), single tone 5M thunderbolt, and the hurricane are at the same general area in terms of DB's. Can we also settle it at sirens should be more rated to being adjusted to certain conditions rather than full on decibel output?

What's there to settle? Your the only one who is making a deal out of all this.

IN the real world you go by 70db ratings, not the full output numbers.

See that would have been nice to know... Too bad my siren knowledge is limited to the very few I have near me. Oh and actually... The whole reason I created this is because there is this whole thing on youtube where people are making a pretty big deal out of it as well. Trying to be a voice of reason and settle the dust... It has been nothing but "Thunderbolts are old news, any aca siren kicks it, blows it out of the water blah blah blah..." Anyways to clear the air especially with you Jeb I wasn't trying to be a PITA, just wanted the info. So thanks for the info and i hope we are all cool and that settles it for me at least... Who wants doughnuts?

It's best to just ignore the people on Youtube. Youtube is full of morons who are fun to troll sometimes.
