Re: A couple questions about my STH-10

A bit off topic, but your STH-10 is a 1996 one. Congrats on the new siren!

When I put togeter my two Model 5s I made a plate with a large hole in the center and two smaller holes.
The large hole was for the bolt that went into the threaded shaft hole and the
two outer holes were for the bolts to go into the rotor. The rotor bolt holes you
used to pull the rotor off with. I drilled the bolts for safety wire.
Here's a pic...

Oh. Just checked the STH-10 manual. It shows a retainer plate like that for the STH-10 as well.

I thought I saw an outline for a plate, but was not sure how it would function, I think I will go CDV's safety wire route. I will also have to fabricate a mounting of some sort, the pole bracket and intake tube were not in with the siren, and I did not see them anywhere else at the auction. Brendan, thanks for the info, I suspected it was pretty new because it is in really good condition aside from the motor. Also the fact that it was not CD yellow reinforced that idea.

I think I will just copy the drawing for the intake tube and pole bracket. Anyone know how thick of steel those parts are? I don't think it is critical, but if I could get the dimensions of the intake tube that would be great.

Here's a side view of an STH from my site. You should be able to scale an
intake tube/support from this pic. This STH was in Richardson Texas and as far as I know was never installed.
It was auctioned years ago. The sheetmetal that assembly is made out of is probably 10 - 12 gauge sheet steel.
Just guesstimating on that though....

To answer your question, that motor is a 215 frame with a C face and longer shaft than a standard motor.

Thanks, I measured the motor and realized the shaft is unusually long. The only thing I figure would work is to use a JM or JP motor and machine the shaft down to size.

Yeah the shaft has no step in it like a JM or JP motor. Its a 215TZC.

The motor was made by marathon BTW.

I am going to call the motor shops tomorrow and see what a rewind would cost. If that is too much I will check with a machinist I know and see about modifying a JM or JP motor, if I go that rout I will definitely document it and let you guys know how it works out sense it might be a useful alternative to others.
