I third the motion to not do it. Come on man, you can't stand outside a fire department and demand they do something.
Is it just me, or do I remember the story of a young woman raising money for her town to install a siren? I think there was something of the sort a few years back. If anything, that's what I would recommend. However, there needs to be a reason that it "needs" to be brought back-they will not take you seriously if you tell them that you just miss the sound of it. That sounds a little harsh, I know, and I apologize for that, however, as I said before, there needs to be a reason for it to be there. Should seriously be taken into consideration before you start posting fliers about donating money for a siren or asking people to donate.
Where are you located? Tornado warnings vs fire calls...if you are in the northeastern part of the US, there are very few sirens used for tornado warnings.
