Yes, that's the
theorized speed of a two-pole induction motor, though rarely does one run at that speed even in an unloaded state due to slip between the motor's rotor and the revolving electromagnetic field from the stator windings. So in reality, the rotor in a two-pole induction motor typically rotates at approximately 3450-3500 RPM depending on the efficiency of the motor and its designed slippage in the magnetic field.
Refer to this site for a more simplified explanation of the cause and effects of electric induction motor slippage.

I'm new to this type of technology, but has anyone on here considered using 3d printing technology such as shapeways.com?
http://www.shapeways.com/ It might be a somewhat economical way to get slightly scaled down versions of your favorite stator/rotor combinations for a fairly cheap price I would assume. It may also be a bad idea as I don't know how durable the materiel Shapeways uses is....

Can't wait. I always wanted to build my own siren

I am familiar with the Shapeways 3-D process and the products it produces. If you where making a static display of a siren probably...one that turns the R.P.M's that the O.P is looking for then no. The process basically uses small pellets of plastic that are melded together to form an object. Any irregularities in the thickness of any spinning parts at the high R.P.M's needed for a siren would result in an out of balance piece that would damage itself and surrounding pieces.....unlike a metal part that could be slightly out of balance yet able to function its purpose within the siren.
The price for such an item from Shapeways would be cost prohibitive for most people.

If Isis were to attack, will install a TwisterPRS1 siren on a pole in my yard to warn the neighborhood.
The twisterPRS1 is technically a round thunderbolt with a planetary geared rotator.

I will post a pic when the siren is built. (Might take a year or 2 :tired: )
