The Siren Board

Good siren are getting replaced by uniform sirens. 2001's are gonna overtake this whole country in the next 10 to 20 years. Scary.

I honestly don't think that 2001s are good sirens. Just today a friend told me that he thought his sirens sounded like fire trucks. I agree with him too. They need to sound less like a fire truck, and more like an outdoor warning siren.

I am so sick of that line of reasoning. No one with ears will mistake a 2001 for a firetruck in the real world. They're not even remotely similar in timbre. And they're eerie let me tell you. A 2001 in attack will send chills down your spine.

True, but most cities don't use attack for tornadoes. They use alert. It's only eerie under the right circumstances. (Power, acoustics, model, etc.)

Well here's someone who confused a 2001 for a fire truck, thought I should share this after what you said. In reality, it's probably just how the person thinks.

St Charles county still has quite a mash up of sirens with a mix of Whelens, Federal Signal and American Signal. Does anyone know if the individual cities have independent control of their systems or does it all go through St Charles county EMA? Always wondered how that worked since the communities purchase their own sirens and the county handles the unincorporated portions. Yet they all sound simultaneously for tests and warnings with little if any activation lag between systems. Any enlightenment is always appreciated.

St. peters controls their own system every other city in st. charles and st. charles county is controlled by st. charles

Has anyone tried pursuing the Thunderbeam? It would definitely be an interesting siren to own. As far as O'Fallon goes, do they still have all their 3016s? I've seen a few driving on the interstate so if someone could enlighten me it would be greatly appreciated.

Cities in St. Charles County that have their own siren system (St. Charles, St. Peters, O'Fallon, Wentzville, Lake St. Louis) CAN activate those sirens on their own, via their police dispatchers, from what I understand. Yes, St. Charles County E.M.A. has overall control of the sirens in the county, except for St. Peters, if I understand correctly. Why St. Peters is that way, I don't know. Doesn't make sense.

As far as O'Fallon's Whelen 3016s, there are a few left, along with two 4003s, but they (the 3016s) have been getting replaced by Whelen WPS-2908s; three per year for the past two years. I think there are two 3016s left to be replaced.

I have tried contacting the EMA about it but they said it's going to another city and they didn't say what city it's going to. As for the 3016's all but 2 or 3 have been replaced with 2900's.
